To Make Kadhi Pakora

Karhi Pakora

Kadhi or karhi is a dish originating from the Indian subcontinent.

Lets’ start how we make it.

Ingredients that you need for Kadhi is :

  • Yogurt 250grams
  • Water 5 to 6 cups or as required
  • Gram Flour ½ cup or 125gm
  • Red Chili Powder 1tbsp
  • Turmeric Powder 1tbsp
  • Cumin powder 1tsp
  • Salt 1tea spoon or as desired
  • Oil Quarter Cup or ¾ cup
  • Onion 2 medium sized (finely sliced)

For Pakoras:

  • Onion 2 Medium Sized (finely sliced and half chopped)
  • Green Chilies Chopped 5 slit
  • Coriander Leaves ¼ bunch
  • Salt as required
  • Red Chili Flakes 1tbsp
  • Cumin seeds 1 tea spoon
  • Coriander Seeds ¼ part crushed 1tbsp
  • Gram Flour 250grams
  • Water as required
  • Baking Soda ½ tea spoon
  • Oil for Frying

For Tarka:

  • Oil ½ Cup
  • Cumin Seeds
  • Curry Leaves

Directions:

To Prepare Kadhi:

Take a bowl, add Yogurt and whisk it well.

Now add Red Chilies, Turmeric Powder, Cumin powder, Salt and mix it well.

Add Gram Flour into it. Mix it well. You will have a creamy paste.

Now add 1 and ½ cup water into this paste. And mix well.

Take a sauce pan, add Oil in it. Now add Onion and Fry it for a minute on a medium flame.

Note: We don’t want light brown, brown onion. Not even we want that onion dries its own water.

Now add water in it. Approx. ¾ cup. Bring it to the boil. Now add the mixture we made before.

Add 2 cups of water again. Now cook it on a low flame. Remember, it will cook on a low flame. No need to hurry.

It will take 1 and half hour approx. Keep stirring in between and add water if needed.

To Prepare Pakoras:

Take a bowl, add onion into it. Onion should be sliced and roughly half chopped. Add green chilies, fresh coriander, red chili flakes, cumin seeds, dry coriander and salt. Mix these ingredients well.

Now add Gram Flour, salt and baking powder and mix all these ingredients using your hands. Add water gradually and mix these ingredients well until smooth batter formed and set aside.

Remember, we don’t want thin watery mixture. Not too much hard and not too much soft batter.

Now, let it rest for at least ½ an hour.

In a wok, heat oil and fry pakoras on a medium flame until crispy and golden.

Now add fried Pakoray in Kadhi. Stir gently and cook it for 4 to 5 minutes.

To Prepare Tarka:

Take a pan. Heat oil on a medium flame. Add cumin seeds and curry leaves. Mix well. Now add tarka in a prepared Kadhi Pakora.

Your Spicy Kadhi Pakora is ready to dish out!

Serve it with Zeera Pulao or Naan.
